Can LP add a "Report inappropriate content" action?

Asked by Ed S

There appear to have been a few questions that request LP admins to ban/disable offensive users, or delete offensive posts (spam, or abusive language, in bug reports/comments/answers).

I just encountered an offensive post (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/109301 ) and I can't find any interactive way to report the abusive-language posting to LP admins for review. (I understand the poster's ire at not having window controls, but the language is not acceptable as per the code of conduct, as I understand it.)

It would be nice if each page featured a "Report abuse" or "Flag for Admin Review" or similar link, so that LP users could help the admin team to identify users/posts that needed admin attention. Clicking this link could pop up an iframe, or open a new page, that asked for a quick reason for the abuse report - a drop-down with "Offensive Language", "Potential Copyright Issues", "Spam" and other common issues, and a textbox for "Other:".

Naturally, the more LP users that flagged a particular post, the higher it would rise in the queue for admin attention.

Could you please consider addition of this feature?

Thank you,
Ed.

Ther are similar issues reported in bug 85358 and bug 45419. There is no general soluton because Launchpad does not have a unified comment system.

Hi :)

Rudeness is generally rare in Launchpad. Sometimes people are a little over excited and a little too aggressive when they first start in here but they generally calm down and become some of the more productive members. Of course i was always polite, honest (errr, there were a few wrongs moments early on tbh). This forum is not moderated in the traditional sense so people learn respect as they learn there is no getting away from embarrassing posts they regret later.

This is a community of equals pretty much and we don't have people judging or condemning individuals in authority over us. In most other forums i have found that sort of thing often leads to an elitist group that then judge & condemn people over issues that turn out to be cultural differences and fear. In here we are usually able to turn those negatives into positive creativity which benefits everyone eventually.

Thanks for the concerns! I guess feeling has been a little higher than normal with this huge new milestone in Ubuntu, the 10.04!

Many regards from
Tom :)

Thanks, Curtis and Tom. From bug 45419 it seems that "the current way to report spam is as a "question" at <https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad>" ... "with [spamreport] somewhere in the subject and to include a link to the spammy comment so that an administrator can review it."

I've bookmarked <https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad> as LP-SpamReport for future reference. I do hope the suggestions in bug 45419 are implemented, though, since that would be a more logical and less-effort-required way to accomplish such tasks, infrequent though they are. The ability to vote comments up/down would be good, too, especially for bug reports and unhelpful answers on questions -- that is, not necessarily offensive ones... just that the comments which did not result in a resolution of the problem get hidden, making for less reading by people browsing the questions or bug reports.

Thank you, both of you, for the help :-)
Ed.
