update of "translation status"

Asked by jomammele

Dear launchpad-team,

I'm wondering why the translation status of the spanish-translation of the project openpetra.org isn't updated properly.

The automatic synchronization is activated.
Translations are imported with every update from branch lp:openpetraorg, and exported daily to branch lp:openpetraorg.

Shouldn't be updated the translation status after every synchronization automatically?
What can I do?

Thank you

Joachim Mammele

Someone seems to have created a release series for the project that's called "spanish-1.0." That's almost certainly a mistake: when translations are set up for a release series (such as trunk), they are automatically set up for all languages. A separate release series of this name suggests that you're planning to release a separate version for Spain, with its own translations for each language.

But translations of the trunk series (including the Spanish translations) look just fine to me. They have branch synchronization set up, they're exporting without errors, the displayed message counts are correct, and a Spanish translation suggestion I just approved went through OK and the statistics were updated appropriately.

The only problem I see with the Spanish translations in trunk is that translators are entering suggestions, but nobody is reviewing them. So the problem could simply be that the Spanish translators are translating in "Translator mode" (see the green link at the top of the translation page) which means that their translations are taken as suggestions. That's fine, but somebody then still needs to go over them in "Reviewer mode" and approve the suggestions that should be accepted into the project's actual translations.

Hello,

thank you for your reply.

Lots of the spanish translations that are already made appear as "Translated and reviewed by...".
(At the beginning of the translation process the translation mode was open)

I changed the mode from translator to reviewer and reviewed some - but there still appear 0 items as changed on the template overview page.

Thank you

Joachim

Actually the translation mode is still effectively "open," since no translation group has been appointed and the mode is "structured." Structured mode works like Open on languages not covered by the translation group—and right now that is all languages. So you probably want to work with a translation group, such as the Launchpad translation group.

As for the "items changed" thing: I think that's just a misunderstanding. The Changed column on the overview for the template just shows the number of translations that were "changed in Launchpad" (compared to upstream). If you're translating natively in Launchpad that is simply not relevant, and it's a distinction we're planning to remove.

Yes, I had the idea of joining a translation group (https://launchpad.net/~lp-l10n-es) but it seems to me that this group isn't maintained at the moment (there are 73 proposed members).

I also created an own translation group for the openpetraorg-project and asked in another post to connect the group with the project but other launchpad administrators adviced me not to this.

After importing a huge amount of translated items (which now almost completly appear as reviewed) from a po-file, the status bar still didn't change it's color to green.
