missing bug

Asked by John Hein

What happened to this bug?...

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/881411

That URL was copied from one of the roughly 25 emails I've gotten from launchpad about it. There were three emails I received just today (2012-Mar-04), but when I try to go to the above link, it takes me to the 'Page not found' and displays:

=============
Lost something?

This page does not exist, or you may not have permission to see it.

The 'Page not found' text says I should submit this as a question. So I'm converting this bug to a question.

I guess the text from the bug did not come along with the conversion to question...

The 'Page not found' text includes an error ID, shown below:

======================
Lost something?

This page does not exist, or you may not have permission to see it.

If you have been to this page before, it is possible it has been removed.

If you got here from a link elsewhere on Launchpad, sorry about that. We’ve recorded the problem, and we’ll fix it as soon as we can.

Otherwise, complain to the maintainers of the page that linked here.

If this is blocking your work, let us know by asking a question at Launchpad Support. Include the error ID OOPS-b95fbe60cb8317eb75d6fdf3a9bf64dd in your message.

The error ID changes each time you try to visit the missing page, https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/881411

The bugs on either side of bug 881411 (bug 881410 and bug 881412) do exist. And other bug pages are resolving correctly. So far, I can only identify 881411 as a special case that is missing - none of the couple dozen other bugs I've tried to get to.

I replied via email and the launchpad email interface said:

=====================
An error occurred while processing a mail you sent to Launchpad's email
interface.

Failing command:
    bug 881411

Error message:

There is no such bug in Launchpad: 881411
=====================

I'm trying to find out if somehow this bug got marked private or marked as a duplicate of a private bug.

But the email response from launchpad seems to indicate that the bug does not exist... not that it has somehow been made invisible to me due to being marked private or marked as a duplicate of a private bug. Maybe it has been, but if so, the response above should be improved.

Can someone tell me for sure whether this bug has become infected by private-ness somehow? Robert Collins' response seems to definitively assert that it is, but I'm just double checking. I have not visibility into what's going on behind the scenes, so it'd be nice to know what happened and why (it would be surprising to me that this particular bug or a dupe as been marked private, but it would be good to have information explaining that, especially for people that have already added to the quietly vanished bug report).

I marked the bug report as "private" because the OP has put some personal data to it. I assumed that the people that normally subscribe to bug reports continue to see it, but apparently they don't.

John, I have now added you as a subscriber. So, you should be able to see it now.

Thanks.
Marking the quenstion answered, although, the interface could be a little more informative. I guess that's what bug 434733 is trying to solve.
