Why does Launchpad keep telling me "You are logging in to https://launchpad.net/"?

Asked by Brian Sexton

After not logging in to Launchpad in a long time and not being quite sure whether Launchpad and Ubuntu One accounts are one and the same, I decided to try logging in to Ubuntu One with my Launchpad credentials and the system did recognize me, although it prompted me to accept some terms to proceed. The accounts do not seem to be the same, though, as changing my e-mail address on Ubuntu One did not automatically change my e-mail address on Launchpad.

Now both the Ubuntu One and Launchpad Web sites show the same e-mail address, but when I try to log in to Launchpad I see the following message along with a prompt for permission to provide my name and e-mail address to Launchpad:

"You are logging in to https://launchpad.net/"

Something seems to be amiss. Why am I seeing this message and what do I need to do to restore normal login functionality to Launchpad?

That is the service running on login.launchpad.net, which is not Launchpad itself, but the Single Sign On service that Launchpad, Ubuntu One and others use.

Can you help with this problem?
