Please move translation domain kcm_phononxine to kdebase-runtime

Asked by Arne Goetje

The translation domain kcm_phononxine is present in phonon and kdebase-runtime in Jaunty. Please merge the translations for this template from phonon to kdebase-runtime and disable the one in phonon.

Arne, please provide links for any tasks like these: that makes it much easier for me to carry on the required procedure.

I assume you are talking about

  https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/phonon/+pots/kcm-phononxine
  https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/kdebase-runtime/+pots/kcm-phononxine

"Merging" is hard (what should take precedence, how to deal with all the nasty corner cases, attribution, etc.) and we lack the ability to do so, so if everything is set up correctly in ubuntu packaging for the future, I'd just disable the kcm_phononxine template in phonon: that one has only packaged translations with no contributions in Launchpad, and once next import comes in, it'll all work fine.

While you are still part of the rosetta-admins team, you should be able to disable it yourself.

Does that sound fine or do you want to disable kdebase-runtime translation and move the phonon one over (since that one has more translations)?

OK, then do it like suggested: disable kdebase-runtime and move phonon over.
Do I just need to change the source package field in the phonon one then? Or does the template in kdebase-runtime needs to be renamed?

You'd need to stop "accepting translations" on the kdebase-runtime first (renaming might be good for future reference and to avoid hitting any bugs, but keeping the name should be fine as well; also, if you rename, you may point ubuntu-translators at it for a few days so they can move their translations over, and only then disable it), and then just change the source package name on the phonon one.

Can I just download the tarball of the kdebase-runtime translations and import them into the phonon translations and then rename the template?

Yes, that should work. To avoid clearing any messages that were already translated in phonon, "msgmerge" the two locally on your machine. Also, make sure the last-update timestamps in your PO files are updated.

OK, I have dealt with that already.
