Where is the Notification Area icon?

I subscribe to the stable releases PPA, and I currently have 0.6 installed. The option to show an icon in the notification area was checked when I opened the preferences, yet I don't see it in the panel. (I unchecked->rechecked and restarted the program a couple of times with no effect.) Will the icon appear only 10 minutes before each session as it says in the Wiki, or should it always be present as long the program is running, as in the case of a media player?

I know you should get a notification popup a few minutes prior to the start of a class.. I don't know if there is actually supposed to be an icon though.

I finally got lernid running on my machine again.. There is an icon in the Indicator Applet area of the top panel.

Yeah, you do receive notifications 10 minutes before as well as when the session starts, but there's no icon on my panel either.

I used to receive them.. I haven't used Lernid in a while.

Add indicator devs PPA (https://launchpad.net/~indicator-applet-developers) and install python-appindicators. You should now get a application indicator in the panel.
