Will marlin support arbitrary icon positions and emblems?

Since nautilus is ditching all the features that made it a great file manager despite its performance issues, I wonder if another file manager will be picking up on some of nautilus' spacial ideas:

Will marlin allow saving viewing options per directory?
Will manually positioned icons keep their position?
Will marlin re-introduce emblems?

- marlin already save a number of settings like "Arrange By" per directory. The views aren't saved that's correct; i choose this behavior to avoid having glitches (jumping from a view to another) when opening directories to browse a location.
- Manual layout doesn't exist in Marlin, it will once the desktop branch will be merged.
- marlin already support emblems, there're used in ubuntuone and dropbox plugins. There's no plan to let the user directly interact with them or set them. More of a plugin thing.

- Is marlin using gvfs and the metadata::nautilus* namespace for emblems and icon positions?
- Do you plan to make icons in folders manually placeable, or just on the desktop?

- no gvfs metada is used for emblems and icon positions.
- Just for the desktop, manual positioning within a window doesn't really make sense to me.

- how will this metadata be portable from one system to another?
- icon positioning makes sense inside of windows, see for instance: http://i.imgur.com/LdODr.png or http://i.imgur.com/ckSIf.png or http://i.imgur.com/oP1gz.png ... I cannot even think how people can use windows explorer that forgets any icon position immediately. Ambiguity is the ultimate luxury of file management, to group files together or think about how they can fit together visually. See also http://www.raskinformac.com/ (Yes raskin is overdone, but what nautilus used to be able to do in this respect was amazing.)
