Not able to sign in to Wiki.Ubuntu.com while logged in to Launchpad parallely

Asked by Rino Tom Thomas

I am user of Launchpad since 2006-08-25.
But this is the first time I am trying to Log in to http://wiki.ubuntu.com.
I had done the following:

 1. Logged in to launchpad.net (My time zone is Asia/Calcutta in Launchpad)
 2. Then browsed to wiki.ubuntu.com in another tab or another window of the same web browser.(I hadn't used Wiki never before)
 3. Clicked 'Login/Regiister' link in wiki.ubuntu.com
 4. On the redirected page which collects information from the launchpad logged in user details, clicked 'Sign In' button.

Then the error page with the error message 'UnknownTimeZoneError Asia/Kolkata' came up

Can somebody give a clue regarding this.
I haven't logged into Wiki any other way after that also. The scenario can be replayed now also.

Feeling it as a bug I raised a bug also, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-website/+bug/516015

I guess that if you change your time zone you will be able to log in to the wiki.

It's clearly a problem that we should fix though...

Apparently changing it to Asia/Calcutta will probably work, if you can bear that spelling.

Hi ~mwhudson,

Its not possible to change the spelling here just because the timezone in Launchpad is selected from an already available list and that is transferred without any option to edit to wiki.ubuntu.com while trying to register there.

The way you suggested may fix the issue and may allow me to sign in to wiki. But that will not fix the issue for ever. This is an issue with the integration with the Moin Moin application I think, which is used for the Ubuntu Wiki.

Thanks for the answer.

For this issue we make a work around of Logging in to Wiki by changing the timezone in Launchpad account to some other for time being.

By this way I logged into Wiki now.

But this is actually, a bug in the Moin Moin application, where the Time Zone data should be updated with the latest name 'Kolkata' instead of 'Calcutta'.

Please somebody help me to raise this issue in Moin Moin application bugs.

This is not a Launchpad or an Canonical openid provider problem. Moin is using an old version of pytz. The Moin plugin needs to make a safe timezone to an old version of pytz.

Can you help with this problem?
