Netflix video and audio not in sync

Asked by Alfonso Mercado Torres

Hi, My netflix was running on fastforward mode but then I tried the pipelight and it sorta fixed it. The video seems at the normal speed now but it is not in sync with the audio by like 1 second and it also seems laggy (the video). Any ideas on how to fix this? If you need more info just let me know how to obtain it for you as I am not so savvy when it comes to commands. I'm Using Ubuntu 13.10 on a Toshiba Satellite Intel Core I5 4GB Ram and Using Intel Graphics Sandybridge.

Hi,

such audio issues are usually related to pulseaudio. If such an error occurs, in most cases it helps just to restart pulseaudio. This should work for both Pipelight and Netflix-Desktop (besides a bit different CPU usage, there shouldn't be any difference between both, the audio output always directly uses Wine). Just run:

pulseaudio -k

Does that help to fix the issue (at least temporarily) ?

Hi Alfonso, have you tried running "pulseaudio -k" in a terminal to restart the audio subsystem?

It worked after that command. Does this mean I have to restart the audio everytime I start netflix? or is it going to be good now?

Hi,

the command is no permanent fix for this problem, so it might be possible that it reappears after some time. Whenever it appears you have to execute this command again.

This problem is well known, and there is also a bug report for it:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/pipelight/+bug/1244167

Unfortunately we cannot provide a better solution, as the problem is located in pulseaudio, and appears randomly, based on CPu usage and a lot other factors. Nevertheless it should (most probably) occur less often when the pipelight libs are installed, since the CPU usage is lower then.

Hi Alfonso, this problem is rare for most users - to the best of our knowledge it is a problem with the audio card driver that no one has had the time to track down.
