Changing dependencies of default-jre (and default-jre-headles) to use 3rd party java

Asked by Mike Sajak

I want to use 3rd party Java (IBM JVM in particular) with Ubuntu Karmic. I prepared proper package of Java VM with 'make-jpkg' and installed it (similarly to instructions described here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/JavaInstallation). My problem is that most of java applications in Ubuntu repositories have dependencies on default-jre/default-jre-headless which in turn depends on openjdk6-jre only. Is there a way to change default-jre and default-jre-headless dependencies to other java vm implementation? That would be very helpful because it would allow to almost seamlessly change underlying java vm implementation to any other and still all java apps depending on default-jre (or default-jre-headless) wouldn't tell the difference. Right now when I try to install e.g. JEdit, or maven2 etc. I have to install whole openjdk-6-jre/jdk which unfortunately I don't want to/cannot do.
I would be very grateful for any pointers how to update or add some alternative dependencies in default-jre/default-jre-headless.

It's a duplicate of 100322. By mistake I submitted the same question twice.

As i know changing the dependencies of default-jre, which typically stands for the default Java Runtime Environment, refers to modifying the software packages that it relies on. This can involve adding, removing, or updating the packages that are necessary for the functioning of the default-jre. https://www.targetpayandbenefits.review/
