fit print range to width/height in Calc

I try to print a sheet fitted to one page. The original I have received from a Microsoft Excel user and the Print preview-function shows the correct fitting including the Scaling mode on the Format page-dialog for Sheet. Still the print will not be on one page! I have tried also the Format/Print range-menu with the same disappointing result.
The OO-version I have is 2.2.

Are you using a vertical A4 format?
Did you decrease the scale factor less than 100 percent size?

The Page format was set to A3, probably by the originator. Thanks for your help!
