Will OpenShot support the Red Raw format?

Asked by David

We're using the Red format (www.red.com) for our feature and would love to utilize OpenShot's open and easy-to-use application for it.

Hi,
The best way to know if it is working with Openshot (and in another measure in LInux world) is trying it.
Openshot uses FFmpeg and if this format is supported by him, it will be in Openshot too.
Could you give us more informations about this Professional format ?
Use this post (mediainfo is the best fort that !) : http://openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=371
And the best way could be to provide us a clip with this one. :)
Thanks.

As of now, Red is not supported by OpenShot as the video files won't load into the program.

Red format uses a specific codec called R3D. They've just opened a new section of the website for developers on platforms such as Linux. Check it out here: http://www.red.com/developers/new

Here's the official website: http://www.red.com/

Red is definitely my favorite professional camera as it supports native resolution of up to 5K. In fact, Peter Jackson bought thrity of them for the upcoming Hobbit movie!

We would love to be able to utilize OpenShot for our Red footage editing needs because of its easy to use interface and the fact that it doesn't slow down our computers like most other editing programs do.

It will be nice to have an video file of this codec R3D. Is it open ? If not, none team can do something.
I inform Jonathan of this possible utilisation and you don't know but i am a big fan of
Lordofrings (the most big for the XX siecle) and Pandora (the more big for the XXI siecle).
Ah Bilbo the hobbit. They have began in July in New-zeland. Do you know the story/the name of the second film ?

FFmpeg has some support for R3D, but based on my testing... it still needs some work. I saw that there has already been a Google Summer of Code project to improve support. As soon as FFmpeg can play this file, it should work correctly in OpenShot. Or at least, you could transcode the file into a more usable format using FFmpeg.

Can you help with this problem?
