Asked by KDHansen

I am considering buying a Canon FS200 digital camcorder to use with Open Shot on Ubuntu and want to know if they will be compatible. Thanks!

OpenShot is compatible with h.254 (i.e. mts files), and will probably work
with that camera. Try and find out exactly what format / codec it records
in, but most likely it will work.

Thanks,

If not too late, take a look on the Canon HV40, it records on HDV and SD media.
I onw other Canon model that has the same format, but the AVCHD/H.264 does not see fine in an intel 945GM/Core 2 Duo @2 GHz, with 2GB@512MHz bus, computer.
It seems no to be not fast enough processor the graphics card is an i950.

Maybe Jonathan knows about the pros and contras of both formats in relation to OpenShot.

You can also try some sample videos in your computer before deciding, just search in camcorder forums, there are many with test videos.

Errata:
should say: I own a Canon camera with the same AVCHD format as the FS200, (not the HDV)
I have not tasted the HDV format.

Can you help with this problem?
