Ver 1.0 hanging after start (sometimes requiring X server restart)

Asked by Dave Smith

Just installed the 64 bit .deb's on Ubuntu 9.10 - quad core AMD. Running from terminal:

lanalyst@arcana:~$ openshot
Added /usr/share/openshot to system path
--------------------------------
   OpenShot (version 1.0.0)
--------------------------------
/usr/share/openshot/windows/SimpleGladeApp.py:340: GtkWarning: gtk_toolbar_set_icon_size: assertion `icon_size != GTK_ICON_SIZE_INVALID' failed
  return gtk.glade.XML(self.glade_path, root, domain)
A new frmMain has been created

The menus seem to hang at various points requiring a kill or X restart. Also tried running with sudo... same thing.

I did get as far as importing a group of videos (from a flip) but when I went to play them, it was non responsive.

You might try installing from our newest PPA. Of course, be sure to
un-install the DEB packages first. This might be an issue with Pulseaudio
or some SDL issue too. Let's see if the PPA fixes anything.

Thanks,
-Jonathan

Did a complete removal and added the PPA repository per your website:

lanalyst@arcana:~$ openshot
Added /usr/share/openshot to system path
--------------------------------
   OpenShot (version 1.0.0)
--------------------------------
*** ERROR: MLT Python bindings failed to import ***
*** ERROR: MLT Python bindings failed to import ***
-------------------------------------------------------
Error: OpenShot has not been installed in the Python path.
(Both the site-packages and /usr/share/openshot folders were checked)

Use the following command to install OpenShot:
  $ sudo python setup.py install

Exception in thread Thread-1:
Traceback (most recent call last):

    self.run()
  File "/usr/share/openshot/classes/thumbnail.py", line 174, in run
    mlt.Factory().init()
NameError: global name 'mlt' is not defined

Did a updatedb and locate of setup.py but didn't find anything that seemed to belong to open shot.

The install produced this:

lanalyst@arcana:~$ sudo apt-get install openshot

Check out this thread. I think it will help you solve the issue:

Thanks! I uninstalled openshot/python-mlt via synaptic, removed /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/mlt.pyc then reinstalled openshot via synaptic -- all is now working fine.
