sharing the media keys with other programs

Asked by Mark T. Kennedy

i run both pithos and amarok under 64-bit FC14. libkeybinder & the python wrapper library are installed. if i launch just amarok, the media keys work as expected. if i launch just pithos, they are ignored. if i launch both at the same time, amarok sees them and pithos doesn't.

how is this supposed to work? are there any logs/messages to look for about the success/failure of binding to the media keys?

If you run pithos --verbose in a terminal, its debug output will include information on its key binding method, which is likely falling back to keybinder if you're on KDE. Is the problem that media keys don't work at all in Pithos, or is there just a problem when Amarok is also open?

I'm not sure keybinder is designed to share the keys with other programs. If you're on KDE, this may be a problem -- I have almost no KDE programming experience and don't know how a Gnome program should be interacting with whatever libraries KDE needs to bind keys properly, so Pithos probably doesn't do this correctly. If you're running Gnome, this may be an incompatibility with Fedora. If you think Pithos is doing something incorrectly, please file a bug report including the pithos --verbose output, and what desktop environment you're running.

Can you help with this problem?
