How to easily check/uncheck some but not all photos before download?

The thumbnail view lets me check/uncheck ALL files using the respective buttons underneath the view. I can also use the shift or control key to select specific files -- but their checkboxes aren't affected by this.

If I want to e.g. uncheck the middle 10 photos in a set of 30, how can I do that without specifically clicking the checkbox for each file?

Select the photos / videos with the mouse or keyboard, and then check or uncheck one of those you have selected. It will affect all the selected items.

And that's the current problem with the selection : "It will affect all the selected items." --> it doesn't. It selects only one out of two.
