When file exists error is generated (incremental number is configured), the file is not deleted from the source - is this by design?

Asked by Donne

I run Linux Mint 16 with Rapid Photo Downloader 0.4.10. I have configured RPD to move the files and to add a unique identifier.

What happens:
File appears in the destination folder with the unique identifier, but the file remains in the source directory also.

What I expect:
File appears in the destination folder with the unique identifier and is deleted from the source directory.

Also:
Would it be possible to have an option to not log the file exists error when unique identifier is enabled? It is hard to see other errors when there are so many of these.

Hi Donne,

Thanks for your question. To be honest you're not using the program as I designed it to be used. If you need to add a unique identifier, you should see that as an error. It is an error! It means you have files with conflicting file names, which is to be very much avoided.

If you have conflicting filenames, what you should be doing is using Rapid Photo Downloader to rename your files using sequence numbers somewhere in the filename. See the documentation here: http://damonlynch.net/rapid/documentation/#sequencenumbers

Thank you. I'll use the sequences and see how I do.
