Is Sikuli still being developed?

Asked by adam acosta

Haven't seen an update since August. Will this project ever get out of Beta?

I don't know wether it is necessary to get out of Beta - there are many outstanding apps out there, that have not left Beta for years ;-)

But yes, it is heavily developed. They are working for now on Sikuli X (stands for experimental), that will come with many exiting new features and improvements (better performance, OCR and text search, import feature, a new App class, better support for handling images in the IDE, ...). But there is no release date fixed yet.

I noticed that the NSF grant ends in Feb.
What is the future of the project after that?
I presume the people doing it now are getting paid?

The NSF grant is more related to the research parts of Sikuli. Sikuli related research will be going on (at least) until I graduate. I think my advisor will fund me for the "research" anyway. However, the open source parts (i.e. the things most people care about) require tons of engineering effort that has nothing to do with my research. So, even though I am getting paid, I only can work on the engineering parts in my spare time (or sometimes as a side effect of the research). But in other words, I will keep working on this for fun no matter what my full-time job is.

Are there any plans for a new release? The current one is 9 months old. Is there development still being done on Project Sikuli?
Thanks for the great work you have done.

Can you help with this problem?
