Are OCR features planned?

Asked by drcode

Hi, I really like Sikuli and will use it regularly. However, its abilities are pretty limited for me as long as OCR is not available in the API. Since this involves OCR of computer-rendered text, it should be possible to have it work at a very high accuracy.

The two functions that would be the most valuable are click(text) to click on a specified word on the screen and ocr(rect) which returns a string after OCRing a rectangle on the screen.

Thanks for this great tool!

Yes. We are planning to incorporate OCR feature. In fact, in the internal beta version of Sikuli we have tried to use the tesseract-ocr engine to support OCR. But we weren't able to get the level of speed and accuracy performance we want. We are currently looking for OCR experts to lend their hands in this effort.
