No longer working with HP laserjet 3330

Asked by iGadget

During some time between the beta's of Lucid and now, I could actually use Simple Scan with my HP 3330 multifunctional. I got nice and crisp scans and the world was beautiful ;-)
This weekend however, when I tried again, it failed.

GUI says:
Failed to scan
Unable to connect to scanner

Console says:
** (simple-scan:5446): WARNING **: Unable to get open device: Error during device I/O

The device is detected properly by Simple Scan and I am perfectly able to print to the device.
Also, copying documents on the HP 3330 works fine, so there's nothing wrong with the scanner.

Is there anything else I can do / try to debug this problem?

Well, just tried a vanilla 10.04 in virtual machine using VirtualBox. Guess what - the scanner works there. Yes, it fails after a certain percentage, but that's possibly an issue with VirtualBox. So the theory that some update caused the scanner to fail seems to be supported by this little experiment. Now what?

Guess I'll just convert this question to a bug, see if that gives me any feedback.

I am closing the question then. I fear that even the Bug will be closed eventually, because Simple Scan cannot do much about driver issues.

Can you help with this problem?
