FLAC compression speed

Asked by StagNation

In the preferences, you can select the compression of FLAC as less, default, or better. FLAC uses compression from 0 to 8, so I want to know what these options actually mean in terms of the FLAC0 to FLAC8 and why you cannot select 0 through 8 if you wanted.

The options mean: less -> 0 / default -> 5 / better -> 8.
I don't think a full 0->8 adjustment is needed here. The only difference is better/worse compression at expense of encoding time, and I think three options are enough.
Well maybe the labels of the options are not clear at all.

Hi GautierPorter,
I actually came to the website just to verify this.
I use an audio portable player that have a very basic chip, can only support flac codec 4 or lower. I wasn't sure which term does what though I guessed it right, it makes sense but its not dead obvious. I think it could be nice to add the numbers as reference.

Can you help with this problem?
