Calendar reminders

When a reminder goes off it plays a sound and flashes the appointment briefly on the front screen. That is OK if the phone is in front of me and I can see the reminder flashing up. However, if the phone is in my pocket the flash has disappeared by the time I get it out and I don't know what the reminder was for.
This is, obviously, not a big issue, but it would be helpful if the reminder popped onto the front screen and allowed me to read it and even click on it to edit the appointment.
