Feedback on the Dell Inspiron 7380 - Kylo Ren 13 - suggested fixes.

Asked by David B

Two issues with using Ubuntu 18.04 on my Dell 7380, a post purchase install using generic U18.04.

1. The windows install has bitlocker installed and at startup, sort of insists you activate it. You do need the Windows install to run BIOS updates provided by Dell. So, disable bitlocked (from within Windows) BEFORE install Ubuntu. If you don't, Microsoft won't let you have the unlock code for a month after registering (thats their idea of security).

2. Out of the box, under Ubuntu, the 7380 uses considerable battery when asleep. This appears to relate to this https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199689 and can be fixed by asking the kernel to use S3 or "deep sleep" mode - see https://www.dell.com/community/Inspiron/Linux-Inspiron-13-7380-wont-sleep/m-p/7314261

After that fix, about 1% of battery per hour asleep. That, and general battery performance is excellent !

My system has a up to date (as of June 2019) Ubuntu 18.04 and Dell BIOS.
