Why Firefox language is not changed when using Bulgarian language in Ubuntu 9.04 or 9.10?

Asked by Krasimir Chonov

When using Bulgarian language in Ubuntu 9.04 or 9.10, Firefox does not change the language. I tried Russian language and everything was fine. The language was changed immediately in Firefox and the system.

Hi Krasimir,

Can you please check if Bulgarian is defined in Firefox as the first prefered language?

Edit -> Preferences , Content tab, Languages, Choose ...

In the new window you should see if Bulgarian is added and if it's the first in the list.

If Bulgarian in not added in the list, we have a problem with Firefox... otherwise it can we a problem with the way a webserver is configured.

Cheers,

So the problem is not with displaying the content of a web page. The problem is with the interface of Firefox.

I`ll answer to your question. The Bulgarian language wasn`t in the list and I added it. So the problem is still the same. The interface of Firefox is still on English.

OK. In this case there is a bug in lang-o-matic, language-packs or firefox...
I still do not know exactly where we should report this bug.

Before a long time I read a topic about the same problem. Here is the topic https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-translators/2009-May/002509.html . So the language pack is updated and synchronized but is not changing when Bulgarian language is installer. After installing Russian language for example everything is fine.

Hi again. I`m very happy to see that someone is fixing the problem with Firefox Bulgarian translation. Today I`ve downloaded the new version of the language-pack for Ubuntu Karmic and when started Firefox there was 2 new add-ons. The add-ons were with Bulgarian language :). But there is still one problem. The add-ons are for Firefox 3.0 and Ubuntu Karmic uses Firefox 3.5. Anyway I`m very happy you are fixing this guys.

Hi. Yesterday I`ve tested the latest language pack for Karmic and now Firefox is entirely on Bulgarian language. Everything is OK with Karmic. The problem with Ubuntu Jaunty continues but this is not important, because usually people prefer the newer version.
