Ubuntu Sinhala - Inactive translation group

The Ubuntu Sinhala Translators group ( https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-si ) clearly seems to be inactive. This is clear as even approving/declining proposed members had not been done for years either.

And it is also not listed in the Ubuntu Translators group ( https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/+groups/ubuntu-translators ) either.

I tried to contact the administration of the Sinhala Translators group for several times, but he didn't reply and seems not available.

I am very concerned about this matter, since for me the main purpose of joining launchpad was doing translations. But this inactive group prevents me (and others) from this task.

Thus I was wondering whether the administration of this group could be changed, and whether this group could be listed in the Ubuntu Translators Group.

looking for a solution,

Hi,

Thank you for letting us know about this issue.

We can change the owner of the group but first we need to find a person willing to coordinate the team.

On the following page you can find a a list of actions required for starting/restarting an Ubuntu Translation team:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/KnowledgeBase/StartingTeam

For adding the team in the Ubuntu Translation group, someone need to take the time and make sure all requirement from the above page are satisfied ?

Can you volunteer for coordinating the team and assuring the requirements are satisfied?

Kindest regards,
Adi

(FWIW, that's the same request sent to the UTC list some days ago [1])

Jeewantha, as Adi well put it, if you'd like to step up as the coordinator, please let us know and we can initiate the steps to change the team ownership. In the meantime, I've sent an e-mail to the whole Sinhala translation team to see if there is any feedback:

Hi all,

I am contacting you on behalf of the Ubuntu Translations Coordinators
team to find out about the state of the Ubuntu Sinhala translators team.

There is an open question in Launchpad about this [1] and it seems that
the team is currently inactive and the administrator unresponsive. This
means that Sinhala contributors are not able to work on the translation,
since translation suggestions will not be reviewed or accepted.

In order to help moving the Sinhala translation effort forward,
Jeewantha Lekamwasam might want to volunteer to become the new team
coordinator.

Do you think you could comment on that question to let us know how the
team is doing and if you'd be happy with someone else taking ownership
of the team to help reviving it?

Thanks!

Regards,
David.

I would like to volunteer as the coordinator of the group. And I will assure that the team will satisfy the requirments mentioned in the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/KnowledgeBase/StartingTeam page as soon as possible. I am also thinking of standardizing the translations which currently are not. And as I have mentioned earlier the main purpose of me in joining launchpad is to localize ubuntu for the sake of our people.

about me:
I'm a student in the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Currently I'm forming a "Sinhala Language Society" in the Faculty of Science of University of Peradeniya. I also had and currently contributing for the "Google In Your Language" program. I'm also working in creating a project to translate text books into Sinhala.

thanks,

Thank you for stepping up as the new coordinator for Sinhala. On my
previous e-mail to the team only the team coordinator replied.

He has apparently not been active in Ubuntu for years, and told me he'd
no longer like to be involved in Ubuntu or Launchpad.

I've instructed him to change the ownership to the
ubuntu-translations-coordinators team and deactivate his account if he'd
like to.

If by the end of the week he hasn't done that, I'll initiate the steps
to change the ownership and unblock this situation.

Thanks!

Hi Jeewantha,

I've now opened a separate request to give you ownership of the team:
