Adding ALSA-1.0.11 into Dapper

Asked by ajack2001my

I would like to request that the alsa-1.0.11 be added into dapper. If it is not possible since dapper was "frozen" with 1.0.10, to at least make alsa 1.0.11 available as a backport.

I need this new version as I have read in a few ubuntu forums posts that it resolves sound problems that some users are having. I know that I can just download the sources and compile them for myself, but I am afraid that it'll break other applications I have taken (via Synaptis).

Please consider my request.

Thank you.

I did a search for "1.0.11" in Ubuntu forums and a lot of people will benefit from this request. Hope I do not break any rules by changing this priority from "Normal" to "High."

I would also welcome this as I too have no sound at present following a Dapper upgrade.

The same here, no sound although my sound card (Intel HDA) is recognised as well as the Chip (Realtek), everything seems pretty ok, but still no sound...

I have the same request.
No sound here altough intel-hda is recognized ... but following alsa project, realtek 882 has been taken into account in version 1.0.11 and not before that.
I hope it would be possible to upgrade it from Drapper and not wait untill Edgy Eft.
Any way, I am sure ubuntu team will make the best choice.

I second (third? fourth?) this request.

While my problem isn't nearly as critical as the issues with Intel cards, trying to record from Line-In on my SBLive5.1 (emu10k1) and alsa 1.0.10, only the left channel gets captured -- the right is dead air. This is a known bug in alsa 1.0.10, and is fixed as of 1.0.11_rc2:

Me too...

my onboard soundcard on a Samsung X60 laptop isn't working. Alsa 1.0.11 should solve that...

I agree. This is a really serious problem with Dapper now. I'd go so far as to say most new laptops today fail the "just work" goal on something as basic and important as sound because of this.

It's happened to me with two laptops, and I've seen it happen to several of my friends. People end up using USB soundcards instead.

My Dell Inspiron 1300's sound card mostly works, but does not work a microphone attaced to it, as I saw, this has been resolved in 1.0.11.

I can't seem to close the ticket, can somebody please assist me or tell me how?

While typing this message, there is a "Support request is answered" check box. I have checked it and hope it'll close this ticket.

i need this version because with 1.0.10 i'm unable to record from line in stereo, only left channel capture with a SB PCI128 and the onboard one, right channel capture is dead by definition on both cards.

For everyone who has been affected by this bug, please test the updated libasound2 package in the 'dapper-proposed' component (note, not yet 'dapper-updates'!).

anyway just a question: if you have ubuntu from only 4 months why not installing something newer than dapper 6.06 that is 1 year and 1 month old?

Thanks Cimmo- added the repositories but still getting errors
skype:
Depends: libasound2 (>1.0.12) but 1.0.11-7ubuntu3 is to be installed
Depends: libc6 (>=2.3.6-6) but 2.3.6-0ubuntu20.4 is to be installed
Depends: libgcc1 (>=1:4.1.1-12) but 1:4.0.3-1ubuntu5 is to be installed

why not upgrade- at home I have 3 computers and all three have ubuntu 6.06LTS - and i like the current config, its summer and I do not want to mess around with a new or updated OS. maybe in winter when the weather is not so nice.

Has anyone tried installing skype windows verison using wine or some other cross over software.

many thanks

mm.
