Accidentally deleted BOTH menubars

Asked by Jonathan

Hi all-
Total Ubuntu noob here,
I was trying to remove the weather panel from my top menubar, and accidentally deleted the entire thing.
So, finding help on the interwebs, someone had posted some commands to enter in a terminal that would supposedly restore the default menubars and all the panels.
I copy and paste like an idiot and it deletes my bottom menubar. WTF.
I don't even know where to go to find applications, they were all launched from the bars, and now I'm blind.
Can anyone help?
I can't right click and do "add panel" because there is nothing to right click on. -.-

Hi,

try pressing ALT+F2 then type gnome-panel in the dialog box that will appear.

I think that gnome-panel is the program that manages the top and bottom panels.

Hmm, nothing happens, but knowing how to launch apps is a small step forward :-)

OK.

Then try the procedure described here:

http://www.watchingthenet.com/restore-panels-in-ubuntu-back-to-their-default-settings.html

Hope it will work for you.

That does it, though I was having trouble with the first command, but I truly am a noob and don't really have a lot of experience with the terminal.
the "pkill gnome-panel" command is what rest it for me.
Thanks!
