Ubuntu is as simple as it gets, I can easily prove it. Here's how: The
size of Windows Vista right now is about 4 GB, The size of Ubuntu 9.10
is about 400 MG. And the fact that Ubuntu is still faster helps a lot
too. And for your question, have you downloaded flash player? If yes,
then I would suggest that you GET the [older] Ubuntu CD, NOT download
it (its much less pain!).

Can you provide the specs of the pc you are using? Which specific programs/plugins are you using to watch YouTube videos? Have you performed a memtest of your physical ram, the Ubuntu LiveCD has a program to conduct such a test.

Do you have any blank CD's? If so, you can continue to follow the proceeding instructions. Even if you do not have blank CD's, I would suggest that you look over the links I provided in the post prior to actually doing anything else to get a handle of what you'll need to do once you are prepared.

Use the following link for the correct Jaunty iso image to download: http://releases.ubuntu.com/jaunty/ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso, once this iso file has finished downloading, locate where the file is. If you're using Firefox now to view this post, then click on Tools > Downloads, in the new window that opens up, ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso should be at the top of the list. Right-click on ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso and choose Open Containing Folder. Another window will open up (probably the Downloads folder), locate the ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso file, right-click on it and click Open with Brasero. (Refer to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto) The Brasero program window will open, insert a blank CD into the pc (another window may open up stating that you just inserted a blank cd, click on Cancel to close this window). In the Brasero window, in the `Select a disc to write to` field you should see `Blank CD-R ...` Click on the Burn button to start burning to the CD. If the burn of the CD is successful, the Brasero program will say so. Refer to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GettingUbuntu for more help.

Now you can leave the CD in the computer and restart it. If the BIOS settings on your pc are set to boot via CD before the hard disk, then the pc will boot from CD and you should see the Ubuntu screen and various options like `Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer` and `Check CD for defects`.

If the less than ideal BIOS settings are selected, you'll have to restart the pc and press F1, or F2 or Esc (the methods to get to the BIOS setting of a pc vary from to another), usually there is some reference to which button should be pressed to get to the BIOS settings is displayed during the beginning cycle of the pc powering on. Once you have discovered which button should be pushed to get to the BIOS, you should press this button during the beginning cycle of turning on the pc and continue pressing the button if you see no change in what is normally displayed. In the BIOS settings, search for a Boot option or tab which should list what devices the pc is capable of booting from and in what order. You what to select the CD/DVD drive and make it the first in the list. Then save the changes and reboot.

Assuming the pc has booted from the CD and you see the Ubuntu logo. Choose `Check the CD for defects`, the pc should tell you if any errors were found on the CD. If no errors were found, then you can choose to install Ubuntu by selecting the `Install Ubuntu` option. Refer to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GraphicalInstall for assistance on what you'll expect to see during the installation.
