install ubuntu to new HDD without any OS

Asked by Dharma

I would like to install Ubuntu on a formatted HDD without any other OS.
Do I need to extract the ISO file to do this or does it automatically do from the CD?
What happens when I put the CD in?

You should download the Desktop CD .iso file, then burn that iso file directly to a CD (Burn Image). After that, put the CD in the computer's CD drive, and boot from it. Usually you have to press Del or F12 during the system bootup to choose CD as the boot device. After the system boots from the CD, Ubuntu will start (it will be a little slow because it's running from the CD). Just click Install on the desktop, choose "Use entire disk" option when asked, and Ubuntu will be installed on your hard-drive.
