black bar at top of screenshots

When I try to take a screen-shot, whether from applications>accessories>take screen shot or by hitting the prnt scrn button (no matter what option I choose (area, active screen, desktop)) I get a black bar across the top of the screenshot. Help?

Can you give a screenshot example, use imageshack/photobucket etc to upload.

You can always install imagemagick and use:

sleep 5; import screenshot.png

th sleep 5 ives you 5 seconds to get the screen ready (extend as needed), the file will be generated (there will be no notification)
