Freeze with all web browser Kubuntu 10.04

Asked by Eric Huguet

Hello, I have Kubuntu Lucid 10.04 installed on my desktop. All is working fine (Kpakagekit, Dolphin, Dragonplayer,
Audacity, Audacious, Gtick, Kate, ping distant hosts...) except when I try to use a web browser (I tried with Firefox,
Chromium and Konqueror) the problem is the following: the browser works normally and suddenly chrashes.
Two things can then append:
-or the whole system becomes unstable (almost any application I start crashes after a few seconds)
-or the sytem freeze immediately
In both cases I must perform a hard reset.

I have reported this problem on the french ubuntu forum. We try to solve it with other people but did'nt succed. All of them have a different hardware configuration.

My configuration is: MB Gigabyte GA-P55A_UD3, CPU Intel i5 750 2.66Ghz, 4Go DDR3 OCZ 1066Mhz, HDD WesternDigital Scorpio Black 2.5" 7200tr 250Go Sata2, VC Gigabyte 9800GT 1024Mo DDR3 Fanless, PwSup Enermax Modu87+, DVD Plextor PX_880SA.
Nvidia Proprietary Driver 256.35.

I work only on GNU/Linux and I like Kubuntu, but I feel a bit desperate...
Thanks for any help

Hi there, try prime95. It is a tool for calculating prime numbers. When you choose "just stress testing" in prime 95 the results of the calculations are known. If your hardware has an stability problem the results of the calculation from you PC will be not the same as the results in database from machines known to work properly. And don't forget to start two calculations at the same time since you have 2 cores (corei5).

Thanks for answers,

Josef: I will compelte the prime95 test soon (the first cpu/memory test ran for half an hour and is ok).

actionparsnip: Here is the result of the crash of konqueror. I first, try to import bookmarks from .mozilla but they are
missing, so I open a htm file containing my bookmarks and then go to "meteofrance.com" (a weather report site).
After a short time konqueror crashed.

I ran various test on my hardware (mprime95, memtest86+). I finally found a memory or mb problem.
I fix it (temporarily) and all seems to work fine. So the bug isn't a software problem.
Thanks again for answers
PS: I apologize for my english, I hope to be understandable.
