I have the same thing. Had it with 10.04 too though. Was fine with 9.04 started maybe with 9.10 but got worse and worse.

Atm, whenever i bootup and startup firefox, it loads my previousy opened tabs, then it even a simple google search causes the entire laptop to crash, not even sys-rq busier works, nothing. It just completly locks up. I thought at first it was the videodriver, but even the xorg-edgers ppa doesn't fix it.

I do notice, that after a suspend though, it appears to remain much much more stable for some strange reason.

Was this Ubuntu 10.10 installed from a MD5SUM verified then burned on to a cd iso image...?

I did a USB install, but yeah.

Also, this has been happening for about 1 1/2 years now. I always reinstall with each release, because my SSD does not support the TRIM flag, so I completly factory reset it (security erase) and do a fresh install.

I would also almost confirm that after suspend, the system is much much much more stable. Maybe even not crashing at all, but I keep an eye out for it. So I crash within 10 minutes after each boot, but suspending after logging in, and then resuming lets me work and play for hours, if not days.

I can't supply any crash/debug info, because the lock-up is so hard, no dmesg or whatever gets written. The only idea I have at this moment, is to use my USB Serial dongle and connect it to another system and use it as a serial console, but not sure how well that is supported, as it's USB.

Can you help with this problem?
