Can't install updates

Hi! can some one help me please im new using linux i got the Ubuntu Ultimate 1.4 an i love it but i can't install the 188 updates i get the same messege i have no idea of what to do an i don't want to go to mi old vista becouse it suck's!!!

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

Ps:I really don't know much of linux

Open a terminal (Applications-->Accessories-->Terminal) and enter:
sudo dpkg --configure -a

If this doesn't help let me know what it returned.
