incompatibility driver ATI VLC Totem

Asked by Karl Joulain

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 530s Dell computer with a ATI Radeon1300Xpro graphic card.
It was impossible to install feisty on this computer. I succeded installing 7.10 alpha5 and then 7.10 beta.
Neverthelless, when the ATI graphics accelerated driver is installed, VLC and totem have a strange video behaviour:
The viewer half superior part is empty whereas the film half superior part is in the viewer half inferior part.
The sound seems OK.
This problem disappears if the ATI driver is disabled. But of course then my games are very slow.
Should I change my graphic card?

Press Alt+F2 and type
gstreamer-properties
Select "Video" and in the first section ("Default out" or similar) and switch "Plugin" to "X Window System (without Xv)".

I had the same problem but ONLY with VLC, to fix it:

In VLC goto Settings > (Check Advanced Options) > Goto Video > Output Modules > and enable X11 or OpenGL output
