Speedup Ubuntu Linux

Asked by jatinchoksi

I have installed Ubuntu OS as well as Windows XP on my PC. The Ubuntu Linux OS seems to be working slow and takes more time to open applications and files. How can I speed up Ubuntu Linux OS. I don't have much knowledge about software manipulation.

a good way to speed up commonly used applications is to install "preload" all you have to do is install it and it will be set up to run automatically, there is no configuration required.

After the first few times you have have opened applications it will start to show an effect in decreased application load time. you can also use prelink which can also show some speed improvements but it's usage is slightly more advanced topic:

In a terminal type

"sudo apt-get install prelink && sudo /usr/sbin/prelink -avmR"

This will take quite a while to complete but when finished you may see slight performance gains.

Can you help with this problem?
