I enabled root and that did not do one bit of good!! All I need to do is copy and paste to the right file and it will be done. It say I don't have permission even to delete the pictures that are already there.

I am a simple newbie, newbie so I need a full explanation, like most U geeks don't seem to understand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sudo gedit /usr/share/backgrounds is what I used and I could not change the pictures.

You're in luck! That's really easy with Kubuntu:

1) Right click anywhere on the Desktop and select "Configure Desktop..."
2) Select "Screensaver" panel
3) Choose the "Slide Show" screensaver in the category "Banners & Pictures"
4) Select whatever folder you have your pictures in
5) Done!

I reckon that with Ubuntu the steps should be similar...

This did not solve my problem. I need someone familiar with Ubuntu.

There is no Slide Show nor Banners and Pictures in Ubuntu. Please someone familiar with Ubuntu answer this!!!

Jim

I have checked several forums and they usually give me incomplete information(Ubuntu geek talk) or the information is so complicated I cannot follow it.

PLEASE SOMEONE MUST KNOW HOW TO COPY AND PASTE TO THE RIGHT FOLDER!!!!

Hi:

go to system -> Preferences -> screensaver
and then use an option called F-Spot photos. I use Gutsy the new version 7,10, I cant remember if in the version 7.04 there was that option. If its not all you have to do is wait a few days.

Yes,Rodrigo is right F-Spot is good option. But first you need to open F-Spot and chose folder with pictures which you want F-Spot to index. Then when you select option F-Spot in screensaver setup window, your screensaver actually will be pictures which you are select before to be index from F-Spot.

There is no F-Spot but there is a GL Slideshow but I can't do anything with it's pictures. They are root "rooted" and can't be "unrooted". Understand my new U language. Ha Ha.

I found F-Spot pictures but where is the F-Spot pictures folder. It says there are no pictures there and I don't know where to find them.

Open F-Spot -> Edit -> Preferences (i'm not quite sure for name, but something like that).
There you can manage Import folder for pictures that F-Spot will use.
Function "Import new image" will import pictures in Import folder.

I don't see a place to open it. Is it a folder? The only F-spot I know of is listed under Preferences--screensavers--f-spot.

There are a couple ways to solve this problem.

The easiest, in my opinion, is to use the "Pictures folder" screensaver. It will randomly display pictures stored in your Pictures folder off your home directory, just like Windows XP.

The next option, is to use the "F-Spot photos" screensaver. That, however, requires first running F-Spot (Applications -> Graphics -> F-Spot Photo Manager" and tagging your photos as "Favorites". It will use your favorite pictures.

Finally, you may use the "GLSlideshow" screensaver, which has some nice fade and pan effects. To specify which photos to use, you must create a file in your home directory called ".xscreensaver" with this line in it:

imageDirectory: /path/to/your/pictures

Of course, the path should point to where your pictures really are, e.g. /home/jhmac77/Pictures. The easiest way to do this is to launch gedit (Applications -> Accessories -> Text Editor), add the line and save your changes to .xscreensaver, assuming you did not already have a .xscreensaver file.
