memory stick

Asked by Andrew Marshall

When I want to remove a memory stick in windows I used to have to click on a button and wait for it to say it was alright to remove it. Do I have to do anthing in Ubuntu apart from just removing it. I have upgraded to Gutsy.

Sure, and you must .not. remove your memory stick without Unmount it.
When you insert a memory stick, Ubuntu put a disk icon is on your desktop and map your drive into Nautilus left resource list (press F9 if you don't see it) to umount the volume you must select, the desktop icon or the listed resource, right click with mouse and select "Unmount".

Many thanks.

I just tried it and I selected 'Unmount Volume' which then made the desktop icon disappear I then removed the stick - fingers crossed.

Are you still with the finger crossed ;-) or it works...?
If it works please mark this as solved.

Thank you.

As far as I know this has worked but just wanted to check that something else should happen, like a confirmation message. There doesn't appear to be any problems

Many thanks
