Video problem when installing 7.10 on laptop

Asked by Chris Cranford

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 7.10 on a Dell Inspiron 9400 with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 card.

When it's loading, the screen will go crazy and display a bunch of weird things, and then it'll give me a text box that says that the display has failed so many times in 90 seconds, and that something bad must've happened.

I'm completely new to anything other than Windows, so I have no clue what to do.

First try the install menu option "Start Ubuntu in safe graphic mode"

There are also some common kernel boot parameters, that may help you:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions

If them don't solve then download burn and use the Ubuntu-alternate
http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.10/

Here something about your system
