VERY slow install of 7.10

Asked by Andy Burtchaell

I am trying to install Ubuntu 7.10 from an ISO CD (Downloaded) on to an Tosh Sat 4600 laptop.

It seems to be working but has so far taken 16 hours (This has to be the slowest operating system I have ever installed!).

I don't want to stop it as it seems to be continuing ok but is this normal?

Thanks

Andy, 16 hours is too much, the install process take about 30 minutes.
How many mb of RAM do you have...?

Thank you

Some common hints...

First must have Ubuntu 7.10 live install cd i suggest you the Standard personal Computer (is the 32 bit version)
Download it from: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Then burn the downloaded iso image to a cd at lower speed you can do (4x).
Here a good howto https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

If you are installing Ubuntu on a already installed Windows...
Here a video http://screencasts.ubuntu.com/Installing_Ubuntu_with_Windows_Dual-Boot

Usually you don't need of any drivers with Linux

If something go wrong you can put some boot options, for example some Acer Travelmate wants "noapic" kernel boot parameters you can find the boot options howto here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions

If you have any issue this q&a will help you

Hope this helps
