Wi Fi works no windows network dapper ce

Can you be more specific about what you mean by "christian upgrade"? Did whatever that is install some new networking software, such as a firewall?

If the above URL is correct and that it is Christian Ubuntu that you installed, I would suggest temporarily disabling FireHOL, which I think (from the documentation) is installed along with the content-filtering software DansGuardian, and see if that helps. What is displayed if you type the following at a terminal?

sudo firehol status

You'll need to enter your password. You can find the terminal under Applications/Accessories.

Firstly It is the Christian Ubuntu upgrade I installed. I also I earlier tried a clean install of christian Uduntu and I had the same result as far as the network. I can't find were to disable FireHOL, I found parental controls

I'll need to wait until I get home and install firehol (or someone could jump in here), but to figure out the correct setup, we need to know how you connect to the other computers on your network. Are they Windows computers? Are you connecting to shares, for files, or servers for internal Web sites or e-mail?

It may not be the firewall. It could also be that the proxy server that the parental controls use are configured to only allow connections to the internet and not local computers. It would be a bit odd, but I suppose possible. Have you also asked the developers or users of Christian Ubuntu for help? They may be quicker at figuring this out.

The computers on my system are networked using network wizard and having network name "adam" they use dcp and no wep as we live on a property about 1 k from anyone else.

Christian Ubuntu is based on Ubuntu, but not officially supported by it. It is sort of an offshoot and not really an "upgrade" technically.

As such, unless others have it installed, it may be harder to troubleshoot the issue.

Again, are the computers that you are networking to running Windows or also running some version of Ubuntu?

OK, having looked into it more, I'm discovering that it's going to be difficult to see what's wrong without installing Christian Edition. And I just don't have the machine to spare. I passed your questions on to CE developers and have received the following reply from the lead developer:

"Hi,
Sorry for your trouble. I wished I could be of more help, but I am not sure. I can tell you that the web content controls in Ubuntu CE uses dansguardian, firehol, tinyproxy, and clamav. You might want to try completely uninstalling these programs through synaptic. Be sure to "Completely Remove" them.

That's what I suggest: Start Synaptic (it's in System/Administration) and type those programs into the search box one at a time (I suggest doing it in reverse order: clamav, tinyproxy, firehol, dansguardian). Right click on them and choose "Completely Remove." Apply.

Tell me if that gets you to the point where you can connect to your Windows computers again. If so, then this problem is solved. If you still need/want extensive blocking of Web sites, then that's a different problem and there are many alternatives, not just the ones used by CE. I'd suggest posting a second help request and much more knowledgable people than myself can probably set you up quickly.

Thank you this has solved my problem yes the other computers all run windows xp and I can see them.
I have never experienced this level of help. With windows you are left like a island to figure out problems. Because of this many systems don't run exactly as I would like. I feel with your help Ubuntu may be a major turning point for Linux i'm convinced.
