xubuntu gutsy very slowly

Asked by Zumsel

I upgraded xubuntu from 7.04 to 7.10 on a I386 Notebook Toshiba Portege. After Upgrade the system starts and work very slowly.
Also a new installation from the netboot-image was not successful. I got the same result. Self the duration of the installation was very, very slowly (7 hours).

I tested my netboot-installation befor with the old netboot-image (7.04) and that started very fast.

Is there any parameter to speed up my xubuntu 7.10?

Thanks for this question.

Try to remove the package evms and reboot the computer. The existence of the evms package sometimes has udev running wild, which you can see when udev uses quite a lot of cpu usage (i.e. 60%-100%)

I hope this helps.

Thank for the answer.

To monitoring my processes I started "top" in an terminal. I don't saw any process like "evms" or any other Process over 20 %.
The Notebook work very slowly directly after booting with the netboot-image or the installed kernel.

Is there any boot-parameter to solve the problem?

Um to remove a package, you have to issue:

sudo apt-get remove evms

Can you help with this problem?
