Asked by thomas byars, jr.

I posted a question earlier and I want to add that I also need to know what a mirror is as it applies to downloading Xubuntu.
Thanks a million.

Mirrors are basically copies of one server's files on another server. The main Ubuntu server has all the files and CD ISO images for downloading. If everyone downloaded these things from the main Ubuntu server, it would probably crash from all the traffic. So, people who manage other servers agree to copy, or "mirror," the Ubuntu server in order to spread out the traffic among servers all over the world.

So, if you want to download Xubuntu, you could download it from the main Ubuntu server. However, it is better practice to pick a mirror closer to you and download the files from there.

Hope this helps.
