no gui, can't get past login

Asked by Jet

I looked at all the questions similar to mine, but all the suggestions they gave didn't work for me.
I get past the ubuntu startup, it has a bunch of checks, all say ok, then my screen goes blank. I press ctrl+backspace and get to the login, but then the gui never comes up, all I have is the command line. I've tried booting with nosplash, but it didn't help. Any suggestions?

also, fast system specs...
AMD Athlon X2 winsor 2.0gHz
Nvidia 7600gt (x2)
4gb Corsair XMS extreme RAM
WD 160gb hdd
Abit KN9-SLI mobo

I've already tried reconfiguring xserver-org, but it didn't help either, though it detected my video card and everything.

Thanks for the question.

Boot without the "quiet" argument that you can see the messages. Or you can login commandline (CTRL+ALT+F1) and execute "dmesg" or look at /var/log/messages. Also look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log for lines that start with (EE).

Hope this helps.

Didn't seem to help, all i found was a large amount of "ACPI: PCI interrut links" in the midst of a bunch of hardware checking.
then "please enable the Immu option in bios" -
the /var/log/Xorg.0.log was empty.
Dmesg: "Failure registering capabilities with primary secureity module

I don't know what I'm suppose to look for in the logs.. When I tried fedora I had to boot with -noapic, but if I add it my computer restarts.
thanks for your help.
