Upgrading from Ubuntu 7.04 to 7.10

When using the update manager I get this message

New version 7.10 available

I follow the instructions and about 10 minutes into the process I get this error message

Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/feisty-backports/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz Sub-process gzip returned an error code (1)

Some facts that might help

i use a dial up connection

I have installed automatix

My question is

Should I persists with the online update which does not seem to be working

before updating, try removing feisty-backports form your repository settings.

also make sure to update your feisty installation to the latest before upgrading.

All the latest updates and patches have been applied

My system is up-to-date

Don't know how to remove back ports etc.

go to:

system->administration->repositories (or similar, have to translate from German )

then on the updates tab you should deactivate feisty-backports and while you are at it remove feisty-proposed as well.

then update with:

sudo apt-get update

and then start the upgrade...

I have deselected unsupported updates (feisty back ports)

and proposed as well

This is looking good
