install DrQueue

Asked by Sethra

Help me please. How do you install scons? drqueue-0.64.3 instructions:

To build the software you'll need several tools being those mainly the
standard C and C++ compilers, the SCons tool version >= 2.97 (you'll
probably find it as a package in your distribution) and the gtk2
development headers (to build the GUI drqman).

* gcc/g++
* scons (depends on python)
* gtk2 development headers
* pkgconfig (usually related to gtk2-dev)

I installed build-essential, all the files.

I get scons with:sudo apt -get install scons

That's where I get lost...I have reinstalled ubuntu 7.1 many times, cleaning up after the mess I've made. I would be happy to even get ./configure to work...but that's another issue. I think the process of getting these utilities to work is similar or related. Because I am not a programmer, but have experience with assembly and COBOL 20 years ago, I am an optimist.

Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction? Please?

I see that DrQueue 0.60.0 is available in Ubuntu, but maybe you need this newer version?

I think you will need the packages 'build-essential', 'scons', 'libgtk2.0-dev' & 'pkg-config'.
Is that what you needed to know?

thanks for responding...

the packages 'build-essential', 'scons', & 'libgtk2.0-dev' you listed I have already installed.

pkg-config is not avaliable through 'sudo apt-get. There is a listing in Synaptic: libextutils-pkgconfig-perl, which I installed just because it is there.

The most troubling glitch is when I attempt to continue the 'scons' procedure. It seems in the instructions that I should be able to type 'sudo scons PREFIX=/usr/local install' to provide a path for execution. What I get is '

:~$ sudo scons PREFIX=/usr/local install

scons: *** No SConstruct file found.
File "/usr/lib/scons/SCons/Script/Main.py", line 1128, in _main

and when I look at line 1128, there is the quote. But I don't know what to do with this information.

And I wasn't aware of the DrQueue 0.60.0 is available in Ubuntu. Could you give me the where, please? I looked for some time and was unable to see it.

thanks again

Done...I'm not sure if I can replicate the process, however, something worked.

Now I must learn how to use DrQueue...

Thanks for the forum, it sometimes helps to frame the problem, and then it always helps to have input.

Thanks, Jan.

If anyone else out there is using DrQueue and is willing to help with odd questions now and then, please let me know.

Well been sat here for a few hours and think that i am a bit lost and having a hard time of it!! Have you used this software before? Looking for a few pointers. I have managed to get the DrQueue in to the

usr/locals

folder how ever i am having a little trouble getting the rest of it together!!

seen the bash command far to much at the moment. I am looking at the screen and its gone all a blur!!

The other bit that has totally confused me is;

scons: *** No SConstruct file found.
File "/usr/lib/scons/SCons/Script/Main.py", line 1128, in _main

Bit lost here!

there are some help pages out there but they are not that easy to follow as I am new to this as I said in one of my posts.

Just a guess but this is something that a newbi does not usually get into!

I hope you can help.
