installation

how do you install Ubuntu? is it just like installing windows xp? run the disk as a boot disk? I've recently downloaded the 700mb file but it's an .iso file. what is an .iso file? can you please give me step by step instructions as to how to install starting from the .iso file.? greatly appriciated... thanks...

an .iso file is a disk image. you should be able to burn it with every burning program. e.g. nero. look out for burning (iso) image .

afterwards just boot the cd. maybe check the cd for defects with the option in the start menu. then boot the cd and see if everything works so far with the live cd. i you think everything is fine push the install button on the desktop.
