one more time. "archive type not supported"?

Asked by Chou

my question, once more, is: Why does Archive Manager tell me that these .deb files (that this forum has been directing me to) cannot be opened? the message it gives me is: Archive type not supported.

wtf does this mean? getting kinda frustrated, cause i still cant play my mp3's

You're not supposed to open .deb files with Archive Manager. They are meant to be installed by a package manager.

To install a single package, you can enter this command in the Terminal:
  sudo dpkg -i path/to/your/package.deb

You may want to take a look to this page:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingSoftware

P.S.: On Edgy, double-clicking on a package file open a graphical installer

You can also double click the .deb file and it will open with gdebi and install it and depends for you. as long as your on dapper or above.
