No sound on compaq v3000

Any worked out method to make sound work again?

Please suggest.

Was the sound working prior to hibernation? Have you tried simply rebooting the computer?

This question was expired because it remained in the 'Needs information' state without activity for the last 15 days.

Oh yeah, sound was working before hibernation.

I've tried rebooting and suspending it to RAM, rehiberating etc.,

Alas, all in vain!

One day I downloaded some game (lbzgl - lemming ball Z) and I was able to hear faint sounds.

I also reinstalled alsa, alsa-utils

I checked gnome-volume-control and found a new switch appear there (PCM-2) beside PCM switch, which probably disappeared after hibernate.
Toggling it off would stop the sound regardless of switch PCM.

So, my sound is back ( wanted to report this here, but I lost this thread until your reminder ) :)

 can anybody help me with this can't hear any sound in my laptop which is a v3000 compaq presario laptop.
