Recorded message during XM streaming...

Asked by dsar

I am currently having difficulty streaming XM radio over the internet. I am having this problem both with Internet Explorer and Foxfire web browsers. I am able to connect to the "XM Radio Online - The Player" page and stream content, but the playback is frequently disturbed by buffering (I know - this is not uncommon) AND an occasional recording of a man with a British accent saying:

"The URL you are attempting to use to access this media is invalid. Please contact your content provider to obtain a new link to this resource."

Following the "message" it sounds like the recording is about to repeat itself, but then it ends to either silence or the XM music comes back on. In an hour of listening, I will hear this message about 5 times. I have tried to search the internet for an answer and I have come up empty handed. I contacted tech support at XM and they sent me some boilerplate language about buffering. I am currently running windows XP Professional SP2, 2002 and using Symantec Endpoint protection software. I ran a scan with the Symantec and found two downloaders which were quarantined and then deleted by me. I have a T3 connection and have tried streaming with both low and high bandwidth settings.

I am really at a loss here. Any ideas?

A quick note: This is a Linux (more specifically, Ubuntu) tech support area. In most cases Windows is not supported here. You will probably get better support on a Windows-based forum, or by contacting XM.

Potential problems that could be causing streaming issues include:
1) Slow servers at XM
2) Other applications using the connection
3) ISP filtering/speed limiting

I recommend you contact XM and see if they can help with the issue.

I am ahving the exact same problems and no one at XM is able to help. My IT folks at work say it is not a blocked website here either. DSAR: how did you get your issue resolved?
