I installed all software through the program updater software. I wouldn't know what a "deb" is or how to use it.

Here's the results for the above commands. Firefox wouldn't startup after running them. I restarted ubuntu and package updater started up and downloaded 10 fixes and updates. I haven't had any system errors this time so maybe it done the trick.
I'll wait a few days to see if my problem has been fixed.
sudo apt-get --purge remove firefox
sudo apt-get --purge autoremove
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firefox

I won't know if this settles firefox down or not as it was still very unstable today
I didn't realise that I was logging to 2 different problem #'s. Sorry about that.
I was getting reports from a couple different problem solvers at the same time.

It seems that the problem is not an instability with firefox, but an
instability with your whole network connection.

The prior "fixes" seems to have settled down firefox.
Much Thanks for all your help.
